Mattel was hit hard by the closures of Toys ”R” Us stores. As a result, they were forced to rethink their inventory strategies resulting in a SKU rationalization/reduction initiative that produced $797 million (USD) in cost savings. The sad fact is that it took a crisis for Mattel to think leaner & smarter. No need to wait for a crisis.
